Most AI photoshoot tools either give you a stock library, gate custom actors behind enterprise sales, or break consistency after the third shot. We built Playcut because we were sick of all three.

Common questions
What can the Playcut AI video generator do? +
Five video types from a single chat surface: cinematic brand films (anamorphic, dolly, drone), UGC ads (vertical 9:16 talking-head), model demo videos (your custom actor wearing or using your product), product motion (sneaker turntables, perfume reveals, packshot reveals), and reference-style video (lock visual language across a campaign).
How is this different from Runway, Pika, or Sora? +
Runway, Pika, and Sora are single-purpose video generators — great for cinematic clips, weak on character consistency and on-product compositing. Playcut is a multi-model studio: seven video models in one picker (Veo 3.1 is the default), on one credit balance, in one workspace. It also adds two things they don't have — character consistency across stills and motion with your custom AI actor, and on-product compositing where the actor holds your real SKU.
Can I generate the same actor across multiple videos? +
Yes — this is the headline difference. Build a custom AI actor once and every subsequent video (UGC, demo, lifestyle) features the same face. Hobby plan ($9/mo) gives you 3 custom actors, Pro ($29) gives 10, Studio ($79) gives 25, and Agency ($149/seat) is unlimited.
What aspect ratios are supported? +
Ratio support varies by model, and the picker only offers what the selected model accepts. Veo 3.1 generates 16:9 and 9:16. Grok Imagine adds 1:1, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 and 2:3; Seedance 2.0 adds 21:9; HappyHorse 1.1 adds 4:5. Generation is native at the chosen ratio — no cropping or letterboxing.
How long can the videos be? +
Clip length is set by the model you pick. Veo 3.1 runs 4-8 seconds; Seedance 2.0 runs 4-15; Wan 2.7 and HappyHorse 1.1 reach 15; Gemini Omni Flash is fixed at roughly 10. For longer pieces, use video extension to append seconds while preserving motion continuity, or interpolation to bridge keyframes. Assembled length can run a full 30-60 second spot.
Is there an API for programmatic video generation? +
Yes — Playcut ships a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server plus REST API with 34 tools, including every video-generation operation: generate-video-from-text, generate-video-from-image, generate-video-from-reference, generate-video-extension, generate-video-interpolation and generate-video-edit. Bundled with every plan. See playcut.ai/mcp for full docs.
Cinematic, UGC, and demo work in the same studio
The AI video generator market sorted itself into three camps in 2025. Cinematic-first tools (Sora, Kling at higher tiers) produce film-school-quality output but demand expert prompting. UGC-first tools (Arcads, Creatify) ship phone-shot realism but lock you into a single workflow. Demo-video tools (Pictory, Synthesia) are tuned for talking-head explainers and weak at narrative.
Playcut covers all three from one chat surface, because a brand shipping a quarterly campaign usually needs all three. The hero film lives on the landing page, the UGC variants run paid social, and the demo video sits on the product page. Switching tools between formats is a tax that compounds with team size and campaign volume.
Inside the studio, every format draws on the same primitives: AI actors with consistent identity, brand kits with locked palette and written tone, a shared credit balance, and team workspaces that keep client work organized. The cinematic flow uses the full camera and lighting prompt vocabulary. The UGC flow uses simpler prompts and phone-camera framing presets. The demo flow pairs the actor library with a script-driven pipeline.
Coming from a single-model tool like Runway? The free Runway prompt generator structures Gen-4 text-to-video briefs whose subject-action-camera skeleton ports straight into Playcut's Veo flow. And if the goal is a faceless YouTube channel rather than brand work, the free faceless YouTube niche finder scores niches by RPM and competition before you commit a single render credit.
Shipping to YouTube? The free YouTube title generator drafts click-through-tuned titles for each upload, and the free video-to-GIF converter turns any finished clip into a lightweight looping preview for thumbnails, email, or docs.
Which video model should you pick?
You choose the model per shot from the picker in the studio, and Veo 3.1 is the default if you would rather not think about it. Nothing is swapped behind your back. All seven models share one credit balance, one asset library, and one workspace, so changing model between shots costs nothing but credits.
- Veo 3.1 (Google) — the flagship default. Native audio, all five modes (text-to-video, image-to-video, reference-to-video, interpolation, extension), 4-8 second clips, 16:9 and 9:16, up to 4K. 160 credits/second at 720p and 1080p, 240 at 4K. Pick it for hero and narrative work.
- Seedance 2.0 (ByteDance) — best capability per credit. 4-15 seconds, 480p through 4K, and the only non-Veo model that reaches 4K. 10 credits/second at 480p rising to 108 at 4K. Known limit: it rejects input images containing human faces, so use it for product, environment, and abstract motion rather than actor shots.
- Grok Imagine (xAI) — the cheap draft pass. 20 credits/second, 720p ceiling, seven aspect ratios. Ideal for volume drafts and social cutdowns before you commit to a premium render. The Grok Imagine 1.5 variant is 32 credits/second and image-to-video only.
- Wan 2.7 (Alibaba) — audio-driven motion and video edit. Feed a still plus an audio track and the model animates the performance to it. Also does prompt-driven video editing on an existing clip. 40 credits/second at 720p, 60 at 1080p.
- HappyHorse 1.1 (Alibaba) — heavy reference locking. Accepts up to nine reference images — tied with Seedance 2.0 for the most here — plus video edit on a source clip. 56 credits/second at 720P, 72 at 1080P. Pick it when the look has to match a big pile of references.
- Gemini Omni Flash (Google) — the fixed ten-second shot. 40 credits/second at a fixed length of roughly 10 seconds, so there is no duration dial to tune. Useful when you want a single mid-length beat without thinking about it.
The practical workflow most teams land on: draft cheap, finish expensive. A six-second Grok Imagine pass costs 120 credits and tells you whether the shot idea works; the same six seconds on Veo 3.1 costs 960. Iterate on the cheap model, then re-run the winning prompt on the flagship. Every rate, ceiling and refusal above is set out model by model on the full model comparison.
Want the model choice shown inside a real build? How to make AI video ads runs one short-form paid ad from offer to exported file, naming the model picked for each shot and the exact re-prompt used when a render came back wrong.
The eight studio photographer filters
Available on every plan, the eight studio photographer filters are pre-tuned shoot styles that apply to any generation. Editorial light, studio softbox, golden hour, lookbook, e-commerce hero, neon night, macro detail, and lifestyle cafe. Each filter encodes the lighting direction, color register, depth-of-field cue, and post-production style that working photographers in that genre actually use. Pick a filter, add the rest of the prompt, and the output lands closer to a real shoot than to a default AI-video aesthetic.
Multi-language UGC without re-casting
Brand campaigns shipping across geographies historically required separate creator hires per language. Playcut collapses that into one workflow: build the actor once, then rewrite the spoken line per market and let the video model perform it. The same saved face fronts every variant.
There is no lip-sync or dubbing step in the Act pipeline — the video model speaks the written line itself. Wan 2.7 image-to-video is the one path that takes a driving-audio asset and animates the performance to it.
The separate Voice Engine generates standalone speech audio in 10 languages — English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian. If your rollout needs long-tail markets, validate coverage before you commit.
